RIP Tryals at Sandy River Equestrian Center in Axton, VA, AUGUST 20, 2023

29 riders came to test their skills last Sunday on the 9 sections of the CVOTC trials in Axton, Va. The weather was about perfect…sunny, warm..but low humidity…and dry. The only slickness to be found was in parts of the 2 creek sections and on a few uphills that turned to dust after 2 or 3 loops.

Section 1….a new side hill with plenty of off camber uphill turns.

Section 2….a creek section with a few rocks and a couple of tricky in and outs….especially the last out for the experts.

Section 3….the hog pen…..up and down a steep hill with logs at the bottom.

Section 4….tight turns with a large rock and logs for the upper classes.

Section 5….steep hillside above a big hole in the creek…off camber rides for everyone with tricky turns and a big rock face for the experts and an uphill turn for the intermediates that turned dusty slick….and no one ended up in the creek.

Section 6….an old rock dam with more uphill action…and of course plenty of rocks.

Section 7….a creek crossing with a slick rock exit followed by some turns and an uphill gully for the experts.

Section 8….one of our favorite rock sections….which shall remain nameless…with big rocks and a tricky turn to the end gate.

Section 9….our steepest hillside with off camber turns for the lower classes and some big ups and downs for the upper classes.
